Why? Because XSplit needs to monitor for drivers, if it doesn’t monitor for those specific drivers Zoom will not be able to record.

Why can’t I see my webcam in XSplit?

If you feel as if your webcam just isn’t showing up in the VCam program then chances are it’s your drivers doing all the work! You need to double check that your drivers are working correctly and that any processes related to recording using XSplit are suspended.

If it doesn’t work, try uninstalling your drivers and using another webcam until you find which one works!

Why won’t XSplit record my microphone?

There are two main reasons why this could happen, first up is that your microphone might be disabled by default on Windows 7/8/10. Second is that the microphone volume might be set to zero. To fix this you should:

Enable your microphone by going into your Windows settings, go to Sound and enable the MIC/Line-In so that it’s no longer greyed out. Then open up XSplit, go to Settings -> Audio -> Recording -> Microphone and choose your device from the drop down menu. Finally, make sure that the volume is toggled on!

Sometimes XSplit won’t let me select my webcam to record with it. How can I fix this?

In order to fix this you need to disable any other programs from using your webcam or recording with your webcam. These programs can be things like, TeamSpeak, Ventrillo or Skype. You should also make sure that the process is not currently recording with your webcam before you open up VCam, because XSplit will need to monitor for drivers.

Why do I have black borders around my webcam recording?

This has got to be one of the most frustrating things! Luckily there are two ways to fix this! The first way is to set the webcam resolution to a smaller size, for example if you’re recording at 720p then try recording at 480p or less.

The second way is to change your XSplit Scene’s dimensions. To do this click on Edit Scene -> Dimensions and give the Scene a width of 1px and a height of 1px.

Why does my webcam not do the same thing when I click the preview button as it does in XSplit itself?

To get around this problem you need to change some settings. First of all, open up XSplit and hit Settings -> Video -> Recording -> Mode and then select Advanced Mode. After that, close out of XSplit and open up the VCam program again. Then go into Tools -> Options and switch to advanced mode in here too!

What is Advanced Mode?

Advanced mode is an improved way of recording your webcam, it has a much higher framerate (more FPS) than Normal Mode. This means that there will be less lag when you’re recording your webcam which is great if you’re making videos or streaming!

You might also want to make sure that you switch your resolution down to 720p or 480p before recording in Advanced Mode. And finally, don’t forget to check the box for Advanced Mode under “Tools -> Options”.

Why do I get a green screen when I record with XSplit?

A green screen is the result of your recording area being green. This can be remedied by changing your XSplit Scene’s background to something that’s not green, for example you could change it to black. To do this click on Edit Scene -> Background -> Colour and set the colour to black.

Why does my webcam record upside down?

This is a common problem and can happen to any webcam that doesn’t automatically flip the footage that you record. There are two ways to fix this:

  • (1) Record your webcam upside down, because XSplit will flip the video for you.
  • (2) Take a screenshot of what’s on your screen and use it as your XSplit Scene’s background.

This will cause your webcam to record what’s on your screen, and it’ll be flipped around because of the screenshot! (3) Use Advanced Mode in XSplit.

Why does my webcam record upside down when I use Advanced Mode?

Advanced Mode has many advantages over Normal Mode such as higher FPS and less lag, but one of the problems with it is that it doesn’t automatically flip the video footage.

Luckily there’s an easy way to fix this problem! All you need to do is record your webcam upside down, because XSplit will then flip the video for you.

What are borders?

Borders are what XSplit uses to capture a certain portion of your screen. This means that if you have a large webcam recording area, then the borders will be larger than they would for a small webcam record area.

To get around this problem just change your XSplit Scene’s dimensions so that the Scene is smaller and has no borders!

Why can’t I access my webcam while using XSplit?

Before you use the webcam in XSplit, make sure that it is not currently recording with your webcam or is being used by another program! If this does happen then all you need to do is stop the program using your webcam and open up VCam. Then within VCam go into Tools -> Options and select Advanced Mode.

What are Scenes?

Scenes are what you use to change the appearance of your webcam in XSplit. Each scene has its own individual dimensions, background, borders and border color which makes it really easy to differentiate between scenes!

To get started click on Edit Scene -> Scenes, then click on each scene that you have defined for yourself within this window. This will bring up a properties window for each scene, within which you can change all sorts of different settings.

Can I add a background to my webcam so that there’s more going on in the webcam feed?

Yes! You can add a background to your webcam by clicking on Edit Scene -> Scenes and then selecting Add. In this new properties window you’ll be able to add a background, which you can do from either selecting from an image from your PC or uploading your own via Add -> Upload.

Why does my webcam record in a small screen in the top left corner of the screen?

This is a common problem and can happen to any webcam that uses a weird resolution in XSplit. To fix this problem all you need to do is change the X and Y resolutions of your webcam in Tools -> Options (make sure that you keep the same dimensions). You can also use Advanced Mode in XSplit which has its own Image Cropping tool.

How long does it take for my webcam feed to start updating once I’ve started recording?

The webcam feed takes a couple of seconds to start updating, but don’t worry it won’t record anything during this time.

How do I configure my microphone?

To configure your microphone go to Tools -> Options and then click on Advanced Mode. Here you can either select your microphone from the drop-down menu or set it up manually using the Add button.

Why does my webcam feed look pixelated? Is it broken?

This is not a problem with your webcam but instead the result of Advanced Mode’s image cropping tool. Make sure that you have the same dimensions set for your XSplit Scene, Tools -> Options and Overall Bitrate in Advanced Mode. You can also use Normal Mode’s image cropping tool.

What is the ‘Wind’ feature within VCam?

The Wind feature allows you to simulate wind in your webcam feed in real-time, which in turn creates a pretty cool effect! To get started simply open up Tools -> Options and then enable the Wind option. You can also choose how much wind you would like in your webcam feed by modifying either the Frequency or Strength values.

How can I create a border that is semi-transparent with an image of my choice?

To do this you will need to go into Tools -> Options and then enable Advanced Mode. Once this has been done, select Add from the main window which will bring up the image properties window.

Within this new window, you can upload your image, drag it into position and then change its transparency by adjusting the Alpha value.

What happens if I have multiple scenes in XSplit?

XSplit has a nifty feature where you can change between your defined scenes within your webcam feed.

To do this all you need to do is click on the scene you want to use and it will automatically start updating. Keep in mind that this feature only works if Show Advanced Tools is enabled within XSplit.

Why does my webcam feed flicker/jump after changing scenes?

The most common reason for this is because the dimensions of your webcam do not match up with your defined scenes within XSplit. To fix this simply go into Tools -> Options and then change the X and Y dimensions accordingly.

Why aren’t any of my scenes updating?

Make sure that you have set up all of your scenes in Tools -> Options, otherwise they will not show up when you choose a scene to use from the main window. You can also change between scenes in your webcam feed by clicking on them.

How do I add a watermark to my webcam feed?

This is pretty simple and all you need to do is go into Tools -> Options, select the Watermark tab and upload your desired image from your PC. Once this has been done click Apply and then re-open your webcam feed. You can then move and resize your watermark by dragging the image from either the Tools or Options windows.

First, you will need to go into Tools -> Options and then select the Add tab. This is where you will be able to create or import any images that you wish to represent within XSplit VCam. Once done click Apply and then re-launch XSplit VCam.

How do I use the Text Overlay plugin?

How do you make a green screen with XSplit VCam?

XSplit VCam will use this codec if selected as your default encoding during streaming or recording on Windows 7 and newer versions of Windows. If you are running Windows 10, the default encoder will be H.264 by default unless you have manually changed it to VP9.

If you are using XSplit Broadcaster, you can choose which one you want to use as your default encoding for streaming or recording. If XSplit Gamecaster is your currently selected encoder then this setting cannot be changed.

What’s the benefit of using NDI?

NDI stands for Network Device Interface. This technology allows multiple devices to share the same IP address, allowing for multiple computers all sending out video feeds into one computer.

This is useful if you are doing a livestream with multiple co-casters or viewers/players watching along with XSplit Gamecaster!

Think of it as a virtual switcher where everything appears on the main screen even though they are coming from different sources.

NDI is not currently available on Mac OSX. The benefit of using NDI comes in when you are doing a lot of content creation and would like to save some time by not having to record or broadcast every single device separately like the webcam, facecams, etc. You can also use XSplit VCam alongside with NDI, allowing you to create a single video source for your main screen.

NDI works on Windows only at the moment!

How do I enable NDI?

You can enable NDI by checking the Enable Network Device Interface checkbox under your Broadcast Settings panel. You will need to make sure that your network drivers are up-to-date and that all devices (video cameras, capture cards, etc.) are powered on and connected before checking the checkbox. Once you do this, your video source will be transcoded into a single NDI device.

How do I know if it’s working?

Once you have enabled NDI, you can go to Tools > Diagnostics and see an NDI item if it’s working. The video source that appears will be the last one you selected in your broadcast layout, and a red arrow next to a camera icon means that it is not currently being used by any other device.

NDI limitations

NDI is still in beta at the moment so there are some limitations: Audio support – Right now, you can only send one audio source to your destination computer. This means that the NDI stream will not have support for mixed audio (where multiple video sources are pushing their own separate soundtracks). It’s likely that this feature will be added in future updates.

How do I get NDI?

NDI is currently available for Windows users only! NDI support will be included in the new major update of XSplit Broadcaster and XSplit Gamecaster 3.2. NDI is not currently supported for Mac OSX, but you can use it on your Windows computer as long as both computers are connected to the same network.

NDI works by using multicast technology and there is an excellent third party app called NDI Analyzer that works as a client on your broadcasting PC.

This will allow you to see the stream that is coming out of your computer as it passes through, giving you better insight as to how everything is working!

There are no limitations to the number of computers you can connect to your NDI source, but keep in mind that it will only send out one video stream at the moment.

That means that if you have two webcams then both will show up on your destination computer as a single device, and you will only be able to choose one of them. The same applies for other connected devices such as capture cards, depth sensors, etc.

NDI Analyzer allows you to create filters that allow you to pick which device shows up as the video source! You can also filter down by layer order, allowing you to choose which webcam shows up in front and which one behind.

This is useful if you would like your facecam to show up in front while your co-caster’s facecam appears behind!

NDI Analyzer also has a smart search function that allows you to find NDI devices that aren’t showing up automatically by name, so even if your NDI device doesn’t show up right away you can still find it.
